MT. KILIMANJARO

(From August 9 to 16, 1998)

The pictures from Marangu Gate (starting point)
to Kibo Hut (the last hut to the summit)

Marangu Gate (1860M)
There are some routes to climb Kilimanjaro.
I started walking here. It usually takes three
days to get to the summit and two days to
return. A guard was standing with a rifle
in his hand at the gate.

Like a jungle
About one hour walk from the gate
I was walking through just like a
jungle. The atomosphere was very
weird.

The dining hut of Mandara Hut (2700M)
It is surrounded by many small huts,
each having eight beds.
About 5 kilometers from Marangu Gate
and 3 to 4 hours walking.

The first view of Mt. Kilimannjaro
Walking a little from Mandara Hut,
I came to this grassland (about3300M)
Kilimanjaro from here is very beautiful
the top of which was covered with
snow..

The porter carrying my rucksack
I only shouldered small rucksack
for water, lunch, rainwear, and so
on.

Horombo Hut (3720M)
The second day, about ten
kilometers from Mandara Hut
and 4 to 5 hours of walkking.

A sleeping hut. It has two rooms
devided in the center,each having
four beds...

The kitchen hut
The porters carried food
for all the climbers including
themselves and cooked for
us as there was no food in
the mountain.

Last water
No water from here. The porters
filled the pots with water for
cooking..

Mt. Kilimanjaro
At the food of the
moutain is the last
hut, Kibo Hut (4703M)
I'm sorry I cannnot show
you the picture of the hut
because of the trouble in
my camera.
About 9 kilometers from
Horombo Hut and 5 to 6
hours of walkking.
A genuine and full scale
climbing starts here.
